People are afraid to say Kyrie Irving is better than Steph Curry, according to Nick Young – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

Steph Curry and the Warriors helped Nick Young, a perennial supporting player, win his first and only NBA championship in 2018. Curry, a popular family man, is too generous.

Young scored just five points in 38 poor minutes over four games as Golden State swept LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Curry, on the other hand, averaged 27.5 points, 6.8 assists and 6.0 rebounds per game.

Still, Young isn’t convinced Curry is the best point guard of the modern era. Instead, the retired 12-year NBA veteran believes a player Curry has consistently overpowered is better, and offered a ridiculous, heated opinion on the matter on Monday.

Young’s message is difficult to read in the truest sense of the word.

While he has said Kyrie Irving had a better career than Curry, “people” are too afraid to admit it. Young added that people are treating the Curry-Irving debate the same way they treated the debate surrounding the late Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan.

He believes that most people, including himself, rank Bryant ahead of Jordan on their all-time list.

To each his own.

At least Young’s assessment of the Curry vs. Irving duel is factually wrong – and absurd.

Curry has defeated Irving twice in the NBA Finals.

In addition, Curry has bridged the gap between basketball and the present, winning four NBA championships in 15 seasons – all with the Warriors, who drafted him.

In addition, he was the first choice and the focal point for Golden State – and for Team USA, for that matter – in virtually every game he played in.

Irving, on the other hand, has never been as successful as a franchise’s No. 1 pick as a champion and was best suited as James’ co-star in Cleveland. However, the eight-time NBA All-Star who played on four different teams has elite handles.

Curry is often criticized for his inability to win without Kevin Durant or injuries to his opponents. But Irving was teammates with Durant for 2.5 seasons on the Brooklyn Nets and had nothing but drama to show for it, and Curry’s 2022 ring baffles all critics.

Irving is a great player whose name is being thrown around unfairly – negatively – because of Young’s excitement. However, Irving only averaged 19.8 points on 41.4 shooting percentage in the Dallas Mavericks’ final series loss to his former Boston Celtics teammate, so a discussion is warranted.

Curry is simply head and shoulders above his long-time rival and that must be clear to everyone, as his former teammate doesn’t even appreciate the greatness of Captain America.

But as the two future Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame inductees near the end of their beloved careers, it’s best to simply admire the mark they left on basketball.

Hopefully Young doesn’t say Curry held Chris Paul back through the 2023-24 NBA season or something.
