Everyone encounters difficult people – it’s unfortunately a part of life. One woman on Reddit met one such person at her local supermarket and was shocked by the sense of entitlement she experienced there.
A woman refused to pay full price for her groceries in the store.
“I just witnessed possibly the most rude interaction of my life,” the woman wrote in her post.
“I went to my local supermarket and spoke to the owner’s daughter,” she explained. “I go there almost every day, so they know me.”
“A woman, probably my age, comes in, starts gathering things and throwing them on the counter, without paying any attention to other customers who are already there,” she says. “This goes on for a few minutes, and then she goes to pay.”

Of course, the cashier couldn’t help her immediately.
“At this point, the clerk is serving someone else and this woman interrupts the transaction by saying, ‘My items are on the counter so you should not serve anyone else as I am obviously waiting to be served,'” the woman wrote.
The other customer, who was being served by the cashier, tried to say something nice to the new lady, but “that resulted in a lot of huffing and puffing.”
After finishing with the other customer, the clerk began collecting her purchases and bagging them. He told her the total amount, which was over $30.
“She tells him he’ll take $25 because that’s all she has,” she recalls. “He tells her he’ll gladly take the $25, provided she takes out enough items to cover her bill.”
This buyer decided to involve her husband.
The woman was not at all satisfied and said to the saleswoman: “I need everything. You can’t deny me my needs. Who do you think you are? I’m calling my husband.”
Luckily, the cashier was prepared for that response. “The clerk was immediately on the spot and replied, ‘Make sure he brings his wallet!'” she said.
“She pulls out her phone and scrolls furiously while repeating, ‘Just wait until he gets here,'” she continued. “Again, the employee is unperturbed and says, ‘I have no choice but to wait. My shift doesn’t end for another three hours.'”
The customer turned on her husband’s speakerphone so that the entire store could hear their conversation.

She told him, “Baby, I’m in this store and the clerk is holding me and two other women hostage. You have to come and save us.”
Luckily, her husband didn’t fall for her trap. “You can’t be held hostage and still let them use your phone,” he told her. “So either you didn’t have enough money or you wanted to buy alcohol without an ID.”
“Her husband then said, ‘If you leave the chips, candy and soda that you don’t need, which we have more than enough of in the house, I’m sure you’ll have enough money,'” the Reddit user continued.
The buyer tried to steal.
The claimant may have believed that she was perfectly justified in charging less than the actual price for her groceries, but in fact she was attempting to steal.
Cornell Law School defines stealing or theft as “the taking of another person’s personal property with the intent to deprive that person of the use of his or her property.”
In this case, the woman wanted to take the personal property of the store and its owner. No matter what excuse she could come up with, this is illegal.
The employee did the right thing by standing his ground, and the husband did the right thing by not tolerating his wife’s games.
