Daikin donates heat pumps to the Houston Home Repair Program

Daikin Comfort Technologies North America has announced a new partnership with the City of Houston to install up to 30 Daikin FIT high-efficiency horizontal-discharge inverter heat pumps over the next three years. These units will be provided to low- to moderate-income households, including many seniors over 62, that have undergone renovations through the Department of Housing and Community Development’s Home Repair Program. Daikin is launching this partnership during the company’s 100th anniversary and National Air Condition Appreciation Days.

Daikin launched the collaboration during the company’s 100th anniversary and National Air Condition Appreciation Day. Houston Mayor John Whitmire declared August 13th in Houston as “Daikin Air Conditioning Appreciation Day” in honor of the company’s commitment to sustainability and the common good.

“The City thanks Daikin for this collaboration. Houstonians, especially seniors, must have the means to maintain a comfortable climate even during extreme temperatures. This partnership reflects our commitment to the well-being of our community,” said Mayor Whitmire.

“We are proud to partner with the City of Houston to launch this program that can directly advance their vision of decarbonization and increasing grid stability through greater efficiency,” said Daikin CEO Satoru Akama“With this program, homeowners will receive a premium system that not only provides them with comfort, but also lowers their monthly bills, in a way that reduces on-site carbon emissions compared to traditional non-inverter systems. At Daikin, we are focused on changing the air conditioning culture in North America and look forward to making a direct impact in our hometown.”

Daikin’s new HVAC systems offer homeowners high-quality, premium systems with internet connectivity for remote monitoring and control. The installations will coincide with the department’s Home Repair Program reconstruction plans, ensuring the systems are integrated into renovated homes and make a tangible difference to many people’s lives.

“Daikin’s generosity is truly commendable and we look forward to installing these advanced systems in the newly renovated homes as part of our Home Repair Program,” said Cedrick LaSane, deputy director of the City of Houston’s Single Family Housing and Community Development Program, an initiative that aims to improve the quality of life while building more sustainable and resilient communities.

Houston City Councilwoman Sallie Alcorn added, “With these new energy efficient solutions, Daikin is helping the city create a more sustainable environment for our community, and we are grateful for their example of how public-private partnerships can make a positive difference to society.”
