City of Collins completes Civic Center culvert replacement project

COLLINS, Mississippi (WDAM) – Work to replace some drainage canals near Covington County Hospital is nearing completion.

The project includes the construction of new culverts along a section of Hospital Boulevard at the Collins Civic Center.

This road between Frontage Road and Civic Center Boulevard was temporarily closed during the work.

The whole thing is part of a $900,000 culvert project that began in spring 2023 with the emergency replacement of two culverts.

This was done to ensure the stability of part of the road.

City officials expect the new work near Frontage Road to be completed in a short period of time.

“They are going to replace the culverts over Hospital Boulevard, that’s the reason for the road closure again. Hopefully it will only be for a short time, about a week, and then the road will be reopened,” said Suzette Davis, Collins city clerk.

“Once all the culverts are replaced, we will undertake a paving project to asphalt the road.”

The signs put up ensure that anyone who wants to reach the hospital or the nearby family outpatient clinic can do so via a short detour.
