Nick Wayne talks about the benefits of working with Christian Cage at AEW

Nick Wayne is considered by many to be something of a prodigy in professional wrestling, but that doesn’t mean the 19-year-old doesn’t need the help of a mentor. Luckily for Wayne, he has the advantage of working with Christian Cage on screen. On the Battleground Podcast, Wayne was asked to talk about his relationship with the former WWE star and had a lot to say.

Wayne began by stating that his younger self wouldn’t believe how the last few years have gone for him. The artist named Adam Copeland and Cage as two of his favorites growing up, and called Cage one of the most underrated wrestlers in history.

“It’s just unreal,” Wayne said. “I asked Sting once and now I ask Christian, ‘Please watch my matches and give me criticism because I want to get better.’ So it’s great to hear what they have to say and of course they’re some of the best to do it. Wherever they’ve gone they’ve been successful in their careers and I want to achieve the same. So it’s really an honor for me to have them as a mentor and to be under their learning tree.”

Nick Wayne signs with AEW and will soon join Christian Cage

At the age of 16, having already made a name for himself on the indie wrestling scene, Wayne was offered an AEW contract that would begin on his 18th birthday. He then made his official AEW debut last year, initially teaming up with longtime friend Darby Allin and Sting. However, last October at AEW WrestleDream, Wayne turned against Allin and Sting to team up with Cage. Along with Killswitch (formerly known as Luchasaurus), the group became known as The Patriarchy and was led by Cage.

“Ever since I started working with Christian, I’ve been taken seriously and taken seriously in AEW,” Wayne continued. “Being under his wing and being on TV with Christian has increased my value on TV in some ways.”

According to Wayne, Cage was a great help when it came to promos. This was an area the young wrestler had previously struggled in, but Wayne has developed his skills under Cage’s tutelage and believes there have been results.
