Shift4 acquires Canadian gift card company

Layer4 has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Givex Corp., a Toronto, Canada-based provider of gift cards, loyalty programs and point-of-sale solutions.

The Center Valley-based company, which specializes in integrated payments and commerce technology, said in a press release that the agreement is subject to customary closing conditions and the transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of this year.

With more than 130,000 locations in over 100 countries, Givex serves a wide range of companies across multiple industries, including notable names such as Nike, Marriott, 7/11, Wendy’s, Best Western and Texas Roadhouse, Shift4 said.

The company also offers gift card and e-gift solutions, as well as customizable loyalty programs and a point-of-sale system for different business types, among other value-added services.

“Givex has a significant presence around the world, which will dramatically increase Shift4’s overall customer base,” said Taylor Lauber, President of Shift4. “At the same time, their gift card and loyalty solutions are unmatched and will add significant value to our current customers by building deeper relationships and enhancing our overall value proposition.”

Lauber said this acquisition, like other deals Shift4 has recently completed, is aimed at bringing blue-chip merchants into the company at low customer acquisition costs while providing additional benefits to its customer base.

“The Givex team is excited to join the Shift4 family and bring our corporate gift card and loyalty programs to hundreds of thousands of new customers,” said Don Gray, CEO of Givex. “By combining Shift4’s end-to-end payments solution with our value-added engagement services, we can offer an unparalleled package to both of our customer bases.”
