When a company releases a new version of something, there are a few different things you can expect. New features, for example. Improvements to old features, perhaps. A new design, a new color, something to differentiate it from the old version, which will no longer be available with the release of the new product. After all, what would be the point of a new version if it was the same device as the previous one?
So when Kosutami tells us on X that the new AirPods Pro 3 will have “better noise cancellation than the previous model,” there’s a certain undertone of “I could have told you that without any inside knowledge.” But it seems that’s exactly what the world is focusing on at the moment, even though there’s a far more interesting statement right below it.
Are the AirPods Pro 3 coming sooner than expected?
The new AirPods Pro are coming – with digital ANC and significantly better performance than the previous version.27 August 2024
Forget about improved noise cancellation—that should be a given. In fact, when another user asked “Are they going to be announced soon?” Kosutami responded that the AirPods Pro 3 will indeed be announced “soon.” While this isn’t a particularly deep rumor, so how “soon” it will be is still unclear, it’s still surprising considering we’ve been expecting the new AirPods Pro for some time.
If they appear sometime in the second half of this year, their debut would be a year earlier than our anticipated potential launch in mid-2025.
Kosutami is no ordinary internet detective and has already confirmed several accurate rumors to his credit.
What might cloud things a little is the fact that the AirPods Pro 2 were the last AirPods ever released, so a new version being released so soon seems unlikely at best. That said, thanks to our leaker here and Bloomberg fame Mark Gurman, we already have an idea of what the sequel might look like. Among other things, there will be new health features as well as a new audio architecture.
Now we can add improved noise cancellation to that list.
