Important dates and exceptions for 2024 and 2025

In most parts of the United States, residents must change their clocks twice a year: once when Summertime begins and once when it ends.

Each year, daylight saving time begins in the United States on the second Sunday in March. In 2024, the change occurred on Sunday, March 10, at 2:00 a.m., when the clocks went forward one hour. But when does daylight saving time end?

Summer time in 2025

Daylight saving time ends annually on the first Sunday in November. In 2024, it will occur on Sunday, November 3, at 2:00 a.m. At that time, clocks will go back one hour and return to standard time.

To sum it up:

  • Start of summer time 2024: Sunday, March 10, 02:00 a.m. (clock set one hour ahead)
  • End of summer time 2024: Sunday, November 3, 02:00 am (clock back one hour)

Make sure you adjust your clocks accordingly to keep up with the time change!

In most cases, people don’t have to worry about manually changing their clocks because most electronic devices, such as smartphones, automatically update the time at 2:00 a.m.

Areas in the USA where the time does not change

Although most states in the United States are required to change their clocks twice a year, some regions do not observe daylight saving time. The Uniform Time Act of 1966 allows them to opt out of observing daylight saving time.

The state of Hawaii and most of Arizona do not participate in daylight saving time, so residents never have to change their clocks. Other U.S. territories in the Pacific and Caribbean, such as Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and American Samoa, also maintain standard time year-round.
