Tesla considers new feature to help stuck Cybertruck drivers

Wes Morrill, a Tesla employee who works as a lead engineer on the Cybertruck, posted on X that he is considering a “stuck detection” feature that would offer drivers suggestions on how to get their truck moving again if they get stuck off-road.

“No one is an expert the first time they go off-road, but anyone can learn,” Morrill wrote.

“I’ve been thinking about a ‘stuck detection’ to give drivers a pop-up suggestion with ideas on how to get out if they get stuck,” he added.

Morrill said this “stuck detection” mode could provide suggestions to Cybertruck drivers on how to let air out of the tires, raise the truck’s ride height or put the Cybertruck into “sand mode,” among other things.

The Tesla employee was responding to a video posted by former Fox News host Tucker Carlson showing a Cybertruck getting stuck in the mud in rural Maine.

Elon Musk has touted the Cybertruck as the ultimate off-road vehicle, declaring last year that the futuristic pickup truck is “apocalypse-proof” and that a pressurized version will be the “official truck of Mars.”

However, since the truck’s launch in 2023, several videos have gone viral on social media showing the Cybertruck struggling to climb steep hills and getting stuck in the snow.

A Cybertruck attracted a lot of attention online when it had to be towed in May after getting stuck in the sand on a Nantucket beach.

The towing company told Business Insider that the Cybertruck got stuck because the driver forgot to let the air out of the vehicle’s tires – a possibility where “stuck detection” could potentially have helped.

Tesla did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider sent outside of normal business hours.
