Mets could be in the race for the “most interesting free agent” this winter

It will certainly be an interesting winter for the New York Mets.

New York is currently fighting for a wildcard spot in the National League, but should do even better in 2025. The Mets currently have a 69-63 record, but will have a lot of money to spend in the upcoming offseason and could sign one or two stars.

The most talked about free agent prospect for New York in recent months has already been New York Yankees superstar Juan Soto. However, there are other players who can help, and the Mets are likely to land a star.

One player the Mets have also been linked with is Atlanta Braves star pitcher Max Fried, according to Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report.

“Max Fried will be one of the most interesting free agents this offseason because, when healthy, he’s probably a better pitcher than Aaron Nola, who returned to the Philadelphia Phillies on a seven-year, $172 million contract after testing free agency last offseason,” Kelly said. “At the same time, Fried is 50-22 with a 2.85 ERA, two All-Star Game appearances, three Gold Glove Awards and a second-place finish in the NL Cy Young Award voting (2022) on his resume.

“Atlanta’s president of baseball operations, Alex Anthopoulos, has let go of most of the star players looking to maximize their value in free agency — Josh Donaldson, Freddie Freeman and Swanson. Fried could be next if he doesn’t want to take a hometown discount. Teams that could be interested include the Yankees, (Baltimore Orioles), (Houston Astros), (Chicago Cubs), Mets and (Los Angeles Dodgers).”

New York will be willing to spend money, and Fried could be worth a deal.
