CarolinaEast Medical Center receives multiple awards and accreditations for quality of care and clinical outcomes in 2024

CarolinaEast Medical Center was named by U.S. News & World Report on its 2024-2025 Best Hospitals list as the best regional hospital in the Coastal Plain and a top-performing hospital for colorectal cancer surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), heart attack, heart failure, hip replacement, kidney failure and pneumonia. This is the highest honor a hospital can receive in U.S. News’ Best Hospitals for Procedures and Conditions rating.

The annual procedure and condition ratings are designed to help patients and their healthcare providers make informed decisions about where to seek care for difficult health conditions or elective procedures. U.S. News evaluated nearly 5,000 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions. Hospitals that earned the “Best” award excelled in factors such as clinical outcomes, level of care and patient experience.

“For 35 years, US News has been a leading source of information for patients grappling with their health care decisions,” said Ben Harder, director of health analysis and senior editor at US News. “The High Performing award recognizes hospitals that consistently provide high-quality care for specific medical procedures and conditions. This recognition underscores their expertise and commitment to patient well-being.”

CarolinaEast Medical Center has been awarded the NCDR Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2024 by the American College of Cardiology. CarolinaEast is one of only 259 hospitals nationwide to receive this honor.

The award recognizes CarolinaEast’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that CarolinaEast has achieved the ambitious goal of providing standard-level care for these patients in accordance with American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations. CarolinaEast also once again received the national HeartCare Center Excellence Award and currently has an accredited Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Center with PCI, Chest Pain Center with PCI and Heart Failure Center by ACC Accreditation Services.

CarolinaEast also recently received the Get With The Guidelines®-Coronary Artery Disease NSTEMI Gold with Target: Type 2 Diabetes and Coronary Artery Disease STEMI Receiving Center – SILVER with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll awards. These awards recognize CarolinaEast’s commitment to following current, research-based guidelines for the treatment of heart disease, ultimately resulting in more lives saved, faster recovery times and fewer hospital readmissions.

Every 40 seconds, someone in the United States suffers a stroke or heart attack. Heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death in the United States, respectively. Studies show that patients recover better when doctors consistently follow treatment guidelines.

“We are extremely proud to be recognized for the high quality of life-saving and life-changing procedures we are able to provide here in our community,” said Michael Smith, president and CEO of CarolinaEast Health System. “It takes a team of dedicated professionals who all play an important role in achieving these awards, and I thank each and every member of the CarolinaEast team for their remarkable work.”
