NCAA Football: Myrtle Beach Bowl – Georgia Southern in Ohio

Head coach: Syracuse – Fran Brown (first year – 0-0) | Ohio – Tim Albin (fourth year, 23-16)

Coach biography: Albin played college football for Northwestern Oklahoma State as a wide receiver. His coaching career took him to Northeastern State and back to Northwestern Oklahoma State before moving to Division I with Nebraska. Albin joined North Dakota State for one season as offensive coordinator before joining Ohio State as offensive coordinator in 2005. He was promoted to associate head coach in 2019. After Ohio head coach Frank Solich unexpectedly retired before the 2021 season, Albin was promoted to head coach. After struggling in his first season as coach, Albin led Ohio to two consecutive 10-win seasons.

Last year: Only losses to Northern Illinois and eventual MAC champion Miami (OH) kept Ohio from getting into the MAC title game. A Power Five win over Iowa State helped Ohio to back-to-back 10-win seasons in Tim Albin’s third season at the helm.

Last game: Ohio built a commanding 20-0 halftime lead against Georgia Southern in the Myrtle Beach Bowl and ultimately won 41-21. The Bobcats threw three interceptions in the victory.

“Fear me, I have killed hundreds of Time Lords”: For those who remember, Ohio QB Kurtis Rourke played against Syracuse in 2021. He was named the 2022 MAC Offensive Player of the Year and made the All-MAC second team last season. Rourke has completed 66% of his passes for 7,650 career yards and 50 career passing touchdowns. He has thrown 16 career interceptions, one of which came to Duce Chestnut.

If Syracuse wins: May the Orange get scared in the CFP playoffs.

If Syracuse loses: Just blame the lack of stands.

Fun fact: Syracuse has won nine of its last ten season openers, with its only loss coming in 2020 at North Carolina.
