Mayor Tucker announces .3 million for “quality of life” projects

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – On Thursday, Mayor Sharon Tucker announced a plan to invest financial resources in important projects to improve the quality of life for all Fort Wayne residents.

The City of Fort Wayne has received an additional $15.3 million in local income tax relief from the State of Indiana.

The focus of potential projects will be on strengthening neighborhoods and improving the quality of life for the public.

Focus:
-Funding for neighborhood projects for each City Council district – $250,000 for each district, totaling $1.5 million
-City Council Funding for Neighborhood Projects – $300,000
-Crossing bridge over Coliseum Boulevard as part of the Pufferbelly Trail – $2.5 million
-Three Portland Loos in the city center – $900,000
-Funding for riverfront phase IIB work: $2.8 million
-Playground equipment in city parks – Lakeside, McCormick, Indian Village, Waynedale, Jehl and Franke – $1.2 million
-Public safety funding as a prerequisite for additional local income tax distribution – $1.4 million
-City General Fund Reserve – $551,310
-Reserve for future investment projects through the LIT/CEDIT fund – $4.1 million

“It is critical that we invest resources in projects and initiatives that benefit the public as we work to ensure Fort Wayne continues to grow and thrive,” said Mayor Tucker. “The additional funding will allow us to maximize our collective efforts to ensure our community is safe, affordable and enjoyable, and that we care for high-quality amenities that build people and neighborhoods.”

Mayor Tucker’s administration will work with the City Council on the next steps to implement the planned initiatives.
