Rain delay updates from Comerica Park on August 28

The Detroit Tigers defeated the Texas Rangers 3-1 on Tuesday, June 4, to improve their season record to 31-30. That was their last time above .500 until they finally got back to winning ways on Tuesday. Their win over the Los Angeles Angels marked their fifth straight victory and an overall record of 67-66.

Their postseason hopes are still hanging by a thread, but they are now 5.5 games out of the third Wild Card spot in the AL. It’s unlikely, but with a fairly loose schedule ahead, anything is possible!

They were able to pull off their 6-2 victory on Tuesday after waiting nearly three hours for rain to pass through. And sure enough, 25 minutes before first pitch, scheduled for 6:40 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Tigers fans got the announcement they had been dreading. Another rain delay is imminent.

Maybe rain delays are a good thing for the Tigers. I mean, they won yesterday’s game comfortably after having to wait a very long time. Who knows, maybe they have another good game in them after today’s delay.

The hourly forecast from Weather.com brings good news and bad news for Tigers fans. The good news is that the rain is supposed to stop around 8:30 p.m. ET. The bad news is that as of this writing, it is already 7:30 p.m. ET and the game was supposed to start nearly two hours before the rain stops. Considering the time it takes to get the field fixed after the rain, Tigers fans are in for a long wait. Still, it looks like there will be a baseball game tonight at Comerica Park, which is always fun.

Wednesday’s pitching clash should be interesting, as Mason Englert will start as the Tigers’ opener, possibly with Kenta Maeda as the relief pitcher. Fortunately for Detroit, they will face Griffin Canning, a pitcher with a 5.18 ERA, the worst of any qualified pitcher in the American League.

It’s unfortunate that Tigers fans will have to endure another delay, but perhaps a boom in scoring will make up for it, especially with the pitching duel likely favoring Detroit and its suddenly better offense.

This story will be updated with more information as it becomes available.
