How to make your hair grow faster, according to two hairdressers

“The good thing about hair is that it grows back 100 percent.”

A few weeks ago, I was standing in line at Chemist Warehouse and bought nearly $50 worth of hair products with my credit card. My shopping basket was pretty revealing – it was packed with hair gel, hairspray, bobby pins, a scalp massager and a hair band. The telltale signs of someone recovering from a disastrous haircut.

Honestly, it was completely self-inflicted. I had my hairdresser cut me bangs and then cut them shorter again. I have no one to blame but myself, but it doesn’t make it any easier. I keep trying to tuck my hair behind my ears, but nothing – except a strong wax – can keep it out of my face.

Although it’s only been a few weeks, I’ve been waiting for my bangs to grow back to their pre-appointment length for some time now. Impatient and desperate to know if this was even possible, I turned to Jaye Edwards, owner of EdwardsAndCo, and Becc Snow, founder of Alchemy Hair Salon, to get their best tips for faster hair growth.

Can I make my hair grow out of my scalp faster?

Although each hair grows at its own pace, usually about half an inch per month, there are a few things you can do to speed up your hair growth. Start with scalp care! Think about regular scalp massages when washing your hair or using a good scalp scrub to make sure your scalp is squeaky clean. A healthy scalp forms the foundation for healthy hair growth!

How can I make my hair grow long quickly:

Patience is key to hair growth. Let your hair follow its natural growth path and you will end up with fuller and thicker hair. Some tips would be to use less heat when styling, try vitamins for hair growth, invest in good hair care, avoid tight or damaging hairstyles and of course, get regular haircuts.

My hairdresser recommends trimming my hair every six weeks, but I want it to just grow out. How long can I leave it between trims?

It’s important to follow your hairdresser’s advice because they know your hair best. Regular trims are important to avoid split ends or breakage and to keep your hair as healthy as possible. If six weeks is too much for you, try going every eight to twelve weeks.

If your hairdresser cut your hair too short, tell them you’re trying to get the length back. A good trick to create the illusion of longer hair is to blow-dry it straight. Volumizing products can give hair a fuller, thicker look. Experiment with updos and hair accessories while you wait for hair to grow back.

I recommend O&M’s Power Base Masque. This product works wonders at binding broken strands, resulting in fuller and shinier hair while promoting growth!

Yes, you can! Healthy hair growth depends on many factors and can vary from person to person, but in general, yes, you can.

My main advice would be to avoid extreme heat styling (a little with safe temperature control is fine), use really high quality and professionally prescribed shampoo and conditioner, brush your hair every night focusing on the scalp (we want scalp stimulation to increase blood flow) and make sure you visit your hairdresser frequently to have your hair health checked.

Trimming your hair promotes healthy hair growth. I know it may seem like it does the opposite, but if you are not seeing results after trimming every six weeks, there may be other issues with the health of your hair.

Hair grows on the scalp and if you get your hair colored, after six weeks you will see it grow back. Hair grows, but if you don’t keep your hair healthy and strong, it will start to dry out and break off at the ends, which does the opposite of hair growth. Trim it regularly for best results!

The good thing about hair is that it grows back 100 percent. To make it look longer, you can add a few tape extensions around the front of your hair to add extra length and thickness. This will allow your natural hair to grow out without you having to focus too much on it.

Date Night Shampoo and Conditioner by DunGud is my favorite combination for almost all hair types. It is moisturizing and lightweight, contains high-quality ingredients and leaves no residue in the hair.

Kevin Murphy’s Untangled is also great. It detangles and moisturizes hair. Super easy to use and keeps your hair healthy and strong between cuts.
