September Library Card Sign-Up Month — DavidsonLocal.com

The Davidson County Public Library System is celebrating National Library Card Sign-Up Month in September. As part of the celebration, patrons with lost or damaged cards can replace them free of charge. This year’s speaker is Optimus Prime, a popular character from the Transformers franchise.

With school starting back up, September is a great time to brush up on your knowledge of what a library card has to offer teachers and students of all ages. A library card opens a flood of materials that support the library’s mission statement of “Reading, Learning, Thinking, and Living.” Patrons of all ages can access both the library’s physical collections, which include books, audiobooks, magazines, DVDs, and Blu-Rays, as well as valuable digital resources such as e-audiobooks, e-books, and streaming music.

Cardholders also have access to experiences, including two free passes per household to the North Carolina Zoo. And last but not least, there are a wealth of free programs, events and activities such as story times, crafts and book clubs. “As the school year begins, we encourage parents and guardians to make sure their child has access to library resources with a library card. Learning and the local public library go hand in hand,” said Sheila Killebrew, library director.

The Davidson County Public Library consists of five branches in Lexington, Thomasville, North Davidson, Denton and West Davidson, as well as the Davidson County Historical Museum and a system-wide bookmobile.
