7 tips for driving on wet roads
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 1.2 million traffic accidents occur on wet roads each year, resulting in more than half a million injuries and 5,700 deaths. Here are some tips for staying safe on wet roads.

Last week, the Georgia Department of Transportation, in partnership with Cambridge Mobile Telematics and the Atlanta Braves, launched Reach Home Safely, a free smartphone app that monitors a user’s driving behavior and encourages safe behavior.
The app uses your phone’s location tracking and motion detection settings to track your trips and record things like speeding and how often you use your phone in the car. Users can also earn achievements for consecutive trips without distraction, proper cornering, and other safe driving habits.

There are leaderboards where drivers can compare their performance with other users. This is where the competition comes in, as there are several prizes for the safest drivers. Prizes include tickets to a Braves regular season game at Truist Park in Atlanta and Braves merchandise. Contests are open to those 18 years of age and older.
“Ensuring every Georgian gets to their destination safely is our top priority,” said Georgia DOT Commissioner Russell McMurry. “By partnering with CMT on the Reach Home Safely app and supporting the Atlanta Braves, we are using innovative technology and the power of the community to tackle risky driving head-on. The Reach Home Safely program is more than just a competition – it’s a movement toward safer roads across Georgia.”
According to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Traffic Safety, there were 1,797 fatal traffic crashes in 2022, making Georgia the state with the fourth-highest number of fatal crashes after California, Texas and Florida, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Reach Home Safely is available for download from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Several Braves games are scheduled through the end of September.
