The Weird Reason We Get Stressed Out on Disney World Rides

The rides are probably the biggest attractions at Disney World.

Rise of the Resistance

Yes, the food is great, the entertainment is top-notch, and we love seeing our favorite characters, but the rides are certainly a HUGE attraction for park-goers. We spend hours waiting in lines for some of the best and most thrilling rides in the world, and we’re not mad about it. Thankfully, Disney does its best to make the wait fun, too. However, some of these entertainment offerings do create stressful situations.

Disney wants you to forget the long wait in line for the rides by providing entertainment in the middle of it all. There are small interactive gadgets and games, but the most well-known form of Disney distraction is the pre-shows.

Dinosaur Preview

These are short videos of characters from the attraction explaining safety tips and the plot just before you enter the area where you can board the ride. Don’t get us wrong, we’re glad that previews exist because they distract us from the long wait and are generally fun. But it’s what happens immediately after the preview that gets our hearts racing.

Right after a show ends, everyone rushes to find the door to exit the showroom. This is the biggest funnel for all of us trying to get to the attraction first, and folks, it’s STRESSFUL. As we try to find our way out, we worry!

Rock ‘N Roller Coaster – Preview

We initially worry about where the rest of our family or group members are. However, if you have been to many screenings, you may have started holding the hands, shirts, belt loops, or shoulders of everyone in your group so that no one comes between you and your loved one. You will NOT be separated before rushing to your captors on Rise of the Resistance!

Next, we worry about our place in line. We’ve waited so long to get to this point that we don’t want to be pushed any further back. Of course, we don’t push or shove and are still respectful as we leave the screening room, but this is one of the most stressful moments of the ride.

While we’re concerned about not losing our group or our place in line, we’re also worried about splitting up other groups. It often happens that once we leave the room and enter the queue on the other side, groups have to scramble to get back together with the other people in their group. That may mean letting one or two people go ahead of you when the rest of their group is now ahead of you.

The rides at Disney World are exciting and we’re glad that Disney provides entertainment to make the wait seem shorter, but we have to say, sometimes we get a little stressed after the pre-show.
