Does your Facebook icon look a bit dull?
Users have been commenting on social media about the “new” look of the app shortcut on their phones. For some users, it now appears as a black background with a blue “F” instead of the traditional white on blue.
On Reddit, dozens of users participated in a post titled “What’s wrong with the Facebook logo?”
“With the latest version the color has become weird. I’ve deleted and reinstalled it twice. The problem is still not resolved. Any suggestions?” was the question in the original post.
Why is the Facebook icon black?
Dozens of respondents reported their own experiences, with many saying the icon with the darker background appeared after an app update.
“I thought I was going crazy. I let my app store do automatic updates and thought my screen was going to die,” said one user with the username brownguymadeit.
Some users speculated about the cause. Some assumed it was a bug, and still others speculated that it could be related to the dark mode features of Apple’s iOS 18, which now has some beta testers, or other possible causes.
Black Facebook icon after update
On an anecdotal level, the Facebook icon on my iPhone looked normal this morning.
There was an update available for the Facebook app, which I installed (for science!). This caused my Facebook icon to have a dark background after the app update. My phone was not in dark mode.
The iOS update to 17.6.1 was also available for my phone, which I also installed. After the installation, the Facebook icon with the dark background remained.
