Lucky PlayStation user sends PS5 controller for repair and gets surprise back

Key findings

  • After a PlayStation player sends his controller in for repair, he gets a big surprise back.
  • The PS5 user instead received a limited edition God of War controller back instead of the controller he sent in.
  • The gaming community is fascinated by happy controller swaps and arouses interest and discussion.

Both Nintendo and Sony offer services to repair faulty hardware, but when a PlayStation user sent in his PS5 controller for repair, he didn’t expect to receive a limited edition God of War Controller back. Rarely do you hear of such errors, but players waste no time sharing their happy experiences with the community, especially when it comes to God of War is one of Sony’s most popular IPs.

Sony has also caught gamers’ attention for another reason, as hype builds around the possible announcement of a new console. Rumors suggest more information on the PS5 Pro will come sooner rather than later, and industry insiders have previously suggested that the upgraded console could launch as early as late 2024. Still, Sony fans are amazed at the current hardware the publisher is offering.

Posted by Alin_09 on Reddit, the gaming community was made aware of the user’s repair experience on the PlayStation subreddit. After sending his standard PS5 DualSense controller in for repair to fix a broken trigger and cracked base, the user revealed that he got the limited edition sent back God of War Ragnarok Controller. A picture of the freshly unpacked blue and white version with Nordic-looking wolf silhouettes on the touchpad button accompanied the post and the community believed this player had been very lucky.

PlayStation user receives surprise God of War Ragnarok controller

The God of War Ragnarok Controller was announced back in 2022 during one of Sony’s State of Play showcases, and since the Reddit user received this version for free, other PS5 owners were tempted to send their controllers in for repair in the hopes of receiving the same exchange. Other members of the subreddit felt sorry for the other player, who had likely received the original poster’s default controller and found one God of War Controller down. Additionally, the community wondered if the rightful owner of the limited edition controller would upload a similar post to the subreddit so that each controller could be returned to its rightful owner.

A similar experience was recently had by another player who shared his luck with Reddit. An Xbox 360 fan received the rare Need for Speed: Most Wanted 2005 original after ordering the 2012 revival version instead. Once again, the gaming community was surprised by the player’s luck, even if the morality was questioned with the Xbox 360 instance and the PS5 switcheroo.

In the run-up to its second anniversary God of War Ragnarok will be getting a massive PC port in September with a file size so large it’s bringing tears to fans’ eyes. Later this year, PC gamers can expect unlocked framerates and the option of true 4K resolution, and the Redditor may even be able to use his new controller when the port arrives.
