The Okoboji Blue Water Festival offers free family-friendly events this weekend

ARNOLDS PARK, Iowa (KTIV) – The 9th annual Okoboji Blue Water Festival takes over the green space at Arnolds Park.

The festivities begin at 10am on Saturday, August 10th with guest speakers, a walk with over thirty clean water experts, activities for families and culminate with a concert on Saturday evening. While the event is fun for all, the goal is to educate people about environmental conservation.

“It’s not just about celebrating clean water, it’s about what we need to do to improve our water and improve our conservation and resource assets. Without clean water, we won’t survive as humans, so we need to take care of our water. And what better place to do that than here in West Okoboji,” said Steve Weisman, Blue Water Festival volunteer.

Topics on Saturday include coastal erosion and a fishing seminar.

“Thanks to donations and sponsors, this is free. Everything that happens here is free. And we have a lot of great activities for kids, including story times, face painting, T-shirt painting. Just all kinds of things for kids,” Weisman said.

The event ends with a concert by the X Ambassadors at Preservation Plaza.
