A taste of fall comes to the Mid-Ohio Valley

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – With school starting back up for many students today, the weather will make it feel like the school year is already a month into the year. Cooler air is now moving in from behind the low pressure system that brought scattered showers over the weekend. We’ll notice this cooler air today despite our morning temperatures starting out above 65 degrees Fahrenheit. As the day progresses, those temperatures won’t change as much. By midday, we’ll reach temperatures around 70 degrees Fahrenheit and later in the afternoon, highs above 77 degrees Fahrenheit. As the cool air moves in today, it will also bring with it some fresh wind. We’re expecting winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.

How unusually cool is our weather this week? Well, the average high temperature for this time of year is around 30 degrees. We’ll be almost 10 degrees below that. The same goes for the above-average low temperature, which will be around 16 degrees. In fact, we’ll even try to break the daily record low and high temperatures.

The record high for Monday is 75 and the record low is 51. The record high for Tuesday is 76 and the record low is 51. The record low for Wednesday is the same as Monday. Our best chance to meet or break the lows will be on Tuesday, as the forecast high will be around 75 and the low will drop to over 40 degrees.

As we deal with these very cool temperatures, we will continue to stay on the dry side. Any chance of rain is now gone as this weekend’s low pressure system moves further east. We will expect ample cloud cover for most of Monday, which will decrease as the afternoon progresses. For the rest of the week, we will expect more sunshine in the Mid-Ohio Valley. As of now, the high pressure that is building this week will stagnate overall over the next few days. This will keep rain chances away for the region all week and into next weekend.
