RICHMOND, Ind. – A Maryland man was fatally injured in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 in Wayne County Tuesday.

According to a news release from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, a westbound Dodge Ram van driven by Michael Aaby of Mariottsville, Maryland, about 25 miles northwest of Baltimore, collided with a Ford 250 pickup truck driven by Rachel Ross of Richmond.

The van drove into the median and hit the guardrail. The truck also came to a stop on the median.

The accident was reported shortly after 10:15 a.m. east of the 149-mile marker on the interstate.

According to the press release, the truck driven by Ross had “reduced its speed or stopped in the westbound passing lane due to construction traffic.”

Aaby was flown by rescue helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, where he was pronounced dead.

A passenger in his van, Katherine Aaby, and Ross were also injured and taken by ambulance to Reid Hospital for treatment.

In addition to the sheriff’s deputies, Richmond firefighters, the fire department’s drone team and Reid EMS personnel arrived at the scene.
