According to mechanic, the popular car owned by 416,000 Britons is the ‘worst’ car you can buy

A mechanic has revealed that Land Rover’s Range Rover is the worst car you can buy, stating that this make and model requires “frequent visits to the garage”. Leading auto parts retailer GSF Car Parts has enlisted the help of the mechanic, who has been in the industry for 17 years, to give consumers advice on which cars are the best and worst to buy, tips on car maintenance and how to haggle with a mechanic to get the best deals.

The Volvo XC90 T8 Petrol Hybrid was named as the best choice among the vehicles by the experienced mechanic due to its performance, reliability and build quality. According to the expert, Land Rover and Range Rover models have recently seen an increase in faulty temperature and NOx sensors, resulting in frequent visits to the repair shop. This trend underlines the increasing concern of owners of these models regarding warranty claims and repairs directly by the customer.

In contrast, if buying a new car today, the mechanic would choose the Volvo X90 T8 R Design Pro or any Toyota/Lexus petrol hybrid because of its reliability, quality and family-friendly nature. “These models rarely come into the garage unless they are routinely serviced,” the mechanic noted. “So they are the first choice for savvy car buyers who value durability and minimal repair costs.”

“What you can do is keep your car maintained with the right fuel, oil and coolant in the meantime. By making sure you use high-quality oil and high-quality non-supermarket fuel, you will keep your car running longer,” the mechanic added.

This statistic shows the number of Land Rover Range Rover vehicles registered in the UK between 2000 and 2020. The figures represent a running cumulative total. The number of registered vehicles rose from around 48,100 in 2000 to almost 416,000 in 2020.

“Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are a good example of something that may require recalibration in a car after an accident or even a small maintenance adjustment like changing a tire. This is something drivers cannot do themselves and will need the help of a specialist. If you notice delays in your car activating or performing an advanced driver function, it may be that your ADAS system is faulty and needs to be recalibrated by a repair shop or automotive expert,” Reaz added.
