Activities on the South Shore this weekend include concerts and festivals

“The waiting is the worst,” sang Tom Petty in one of his decades-spanning hits, but fans of the late musician’s songs won’t have to wait to hear his music live again when tribute band The Breakers take the stage at Plymouth’s Memorial Hall this Saturday.

The show is just one of several events taking place on the South Shore this weekend, and some of them are even free.

Each weekend, the area hosts summer festivals and events, including the popular Pembroke Arts Festival and the Rockland Open Air Market’s Family Fun Day.

In Marshfield, organizers of the Marshvegas Hometown Festival hope their inaugural event will become another family-friendly tradition to look forward to year after year.

If you’re not in the mood for crowds and music, you can escape the daily grind at Weir River Farm in Hingham during the weekly open barn day. Here, everyone can tour the farm and meet all of the four-legged residents.

Choose one or all of them. Either way, there’s no reason to stay inside.
