After 13 years, Snapchat’s latest move could lead WhatsApp and Instagram to finally release a native iPad app

Snap has finally decided to release a native app for a larger iPad display. The update comes 13 years after the app debuted on iPhone and Android devices. While Snap has taken a step toward a larger screen, Meta is resisting the idea of bringing the Instagram and WhatsApp apps to the iPad. The social media giant could learn from this approach.

Snapchat has released a native app for the iPad and could pave the way for Instagram and WhatsApp

In case you don’t know, users have been demanding a dedicated WhatsApp and Instagram app for the iPad, and while there are workarounds to get them, native support is still lacking. The iPad is a very powerful device, and it would make sense for the company to host its app on the device to take advantage of the larger display. Snapchat’s native support for the iPad will allow users to better utilize the new features.

Previously, Snapchat for iPad was not optimized for the iPad, forcing users to use the app at a much lower resolution and with huge borders on all sides. With native support, the app’s UI is now perfectly optimized for the iPad screen, leaving no blank black spaces. You must note that the app’s UI is currently set to portrait mode, which means you cannot rotate it even if you have the switch enabled.

Snapchat now has native support for the iPad! This means Snapchat fills the entire screen of an iPad, giving you a bigger canvas when taking Snaps and allowing you to see more friends in the second and fourth tabs.

Snapchat first released its app on the iPhone in 2011 and now, 13 years later, the app has finally arrived on the iPad. Snapchat recently introduced a wide range of AI-powered features, all of which will be available on the iPad. There is also an AI Assistant that lets you try out the new features. If you’re interested, Snapchat is available for free on the App Store for all iPads running iPadOS 13 and later versions.

The arrival of Snapchat on the iPad could prompt WhatsApp and Instagram to bring native support for the device. While it ultimately comes down to personal preference whether you want to use the platforms on a larger screen, it’s always better to have a cross-device ecosystem. We don’t yet know if Meta is working on a native WhatsApp and Instagram app for the iPad, but we’ll let you know as soon as more information becomes available.
