AGT Foods opens processing facility in Minot amid rising popularity of gluten-free products

MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – As demand for gluten-free pasta dishes continues to grow, Minot will play a role in expanding distribution of these products across the country and around the world.

State and local leaders recently joined AGT Foods executives in celebrating the opening of the company’s new processing facility in Minot.

This multi-million dollar pasta extrusion center, located just off the State Fairgrounds, will serve as a hub for the development of plant-based proteins and gluten-free products.

The company’s CEO said Minot offers great logistical advantages due to its nearby intermodal facility and highway location for freight transportation.

“We are seeing a demand for healthier snacks with protein and fiber. And we are again seeing plant-based meat substitutes or even the use of plant-based alternatives to extend meat. So it’s not about replacing meat, it’s about offering affordable protein to consumers around the world,” said Murad Al-Katib, President and CEO of AGT Foods.

The plant created 20 jobs.

Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring praised the company’s decision to open the Minot facility.

“The fact that they’re making this kind of investment here, I think, shows that when you look at North Dakota – legumes, beans, peas, lentils and chickpeas – they’re really using these products to enhance their pasta line,” Goehring said.

AGT Foods now has three locations in the region: two in Minot and one in Williston.
