Ahmari Huggins-Bruce officially returns to the Louisville football team

Louisville’s worst-kept secret was confirmed Tuesday when the University of Louisville football program announced in a press release that wide receiver Ahmari Huggins-Bruce is back on the team and eligible to play for the Cardinals in 2024.

Huggins-Bruce transferred in December after Louisville’s loss to USC in the Holiday Bowl. He spent spring practice and the first part of fall camp with South Carolina.

Huggins-Bruce played for Louisville for three years and caught 20 passes for 312 yards and four touchdowns last season. In his career at U of L, he totaled 1,121 yards and 10 touchdowns on 80 catches.

Like I said last week, I don’t see any downside to it. Guys like Jadon Thompson, Cataurus Hicks and Jahlil McClain will still get the first chance to prove they deserve to take Caullin Lacy’s spot. If they prove themselves in the next two weeks, great, then we’ll be right back where we were before Huggins-Bruce left South Carolina.

If not, you now have a proven player in AHB who could step in at the end of September and give Tyler Shough another downfield threat. We know he’s fast, we know he can catch, we know he knows the offense; it’s a no-brainer to add him back.

With the number 9 already taken, Huggins-Bruce will reportedly wear number 24 for the Cards this season.
