New Delhi:

Airtel will soon discontinue its Wynk Music app and partner with Apple to offer music and video content to its customers. The telecom giant will offer exclusive deals on Apple TV+ and Apple Music to its customers in India later this year.

“We can confirm that we will discontinue Wynk Music and integrate all Wynk Music employees into the Airtel ecosystem,” a spokesperson told news agency PTI shortly after the company announced a strategic partnership with Apple.

Users who have subscribed to Airtel’s music streaming service Wynk Premium will now get access to special offers on Apple Music. “Airtel plans to shut down Wynk Music in the next few months. All employees will be absorbed into the company,” said another source.

The Wynk Music app was launched by Airtel a decade ago, in 2014. Currently, it is estimated to have over 100 million subscribers.

As part of the new deal, Apple TV+ will be integrated into Airtel’s video streaming platform Xstream and will be available through premium subscriptions. However, Airtel has not yet disclosed the financial terms of the partnership or pricing details for the plans.

Airtel’s announcement comes as Disney and Reliance seek antitrust approval in India for their $8.5 billion merger to create the country’s largest entertainment company.
