Animal shelters in Devore and Big Bear Lake are offering free adoptions this month

Animal shelters in Devore and Big Bear Lake have launched a month of free pet adoptions as part of the 10th annual national Clear The Shelters campaign.

Free adoptions of qualified pets began Saturday and will continue through Sept. 10, according to the San Bernardino County Animal Control Department.

All adopted pets are neutered, microchipped and vaccinated, animal welfare officials said in a written statement. “Our meet-and-greet areas allow you to interact with our pets to see which one is the best fit for you and your family.”

According to the agency, 168 animals were adopted at last year’s event.

The shelters are located at 19777 Shelter Way in Devore and at 42080 North Shore Drive in Big Bear Lake.

The Devore emergency shelter is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The shelter at Big Bear Lake is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday from noon to 7 p.m.
