Anthony Richardson ready to learn from Bengals game, Alec Pierce finishes consistently strong preseason, D-Line continues disruptive streak

1. Anthony Richardson and the Colts offense can learn a lot from the film.

Richardson completed seven of eight passes for 65 yards and a touchdown on the Colts’ first drive, but on his final four possessions he completed one of six passes for 21 yards with a pick six and a fumble.

However, neither Richardson nor head coach Shane Steichen seemed particularly concerned that those final four drives might indicate more than a few correctable errors.

“Offensively, that first drive was fantastic,” Steichen said. “… I’ll watch the tape again. There’s a lot to learn from the next few drives, but it was great to get everybody out there and get them going.”

The Colts have 16 days to learn from the good and bad of their entire preseason, which began four weeks ago at Grand Park in Westfield, before opening the 2024 regular season against the Houston Texans at Lucas Oil Stadium. And let’s not forget why there’s a preseason in the first place: It’s an opportunity to try things out, learn from mistakes and coordinate with teammates before a touchdown or pick-six impacts a big game.

“It’s been great to see his development,” Steichen said of Richardson. “To be in the OTAs, to go into training camp, to win that series in the first preseason game, then to go out and play a lot tonight — that was great. Again, I’m excited. It’s 17 days until Houston, so we’ve got a lot to do before we get there, but we’re fired up.”

“… He’s played what, four and a half games? To get out there and play his first full season, which we’re excited about, I just think about his playmaking ability. He’s going to make some great plays for us this year. I think he’s going to be great and fun to watch.”
