If you were hoping that AMD might launch some new budget RDNA 3 GPUs in the near future, we have bad news: according to the latest rumors, that’s unfortunately not going to happen.
We’ve been spoiled with rumors before about an expansion of the current generation of graphics cards, with the possibility that AMD could launch an RX 7400 and RX 7300 – but not according to Benchlife.
A report from the Chinese tech site – with appropriate spice – claims that these GPUs “are not on the development list of any AIB partners,” meaning graphics card manufacturers in China.
If that’s really the case at this point, it means that the supposed contenders for a spot on our list of cheapest GPUs are unlikely to hit the market, at least not in the form of a consumer release (boxed products on the shelves).
So, theoretically, there’s still the possibility that these low-end GPUs are being manufactured for OEMs (third-party PC manufacturers) so that these companies can build them directly into pre-built machines. But even that seems unlikely, especially since Benchlife adds that there’s no confirmation from the major OEMs (Dell, HP, and Lenovo) of the existence of such models.
Rather, the report states that everyone (graphics card manufacturers) is focused on launching the next-generation RDNA 4 products.
Analysis: A mix-up in the rumor mill?
While it’s just a single report – and it’s not from one of our favorite sources, although we certainly wouldn’t dismiss Benchlife – it sounds pretty bleak about the chances of these rumored graphics cards.
So what’s going on and why were the previous rumors circulating in the first place? Well, it could simply be that AMD changed its mind and had plans for an RX 7400 and RX 7300 but they never came to fruition. Could this even be a sign that the timeframe for RDNA 4 delivery has been brought forward?
That seems like too big a step, but we can still hope – the latest speculation about the release of AMD’s next-gen GPUs says it won’t happen until early 2025, with a reveal possibly at CES 2025. (Though there is a glimmer of hope that RDNA 4 could arrive later in 2024, and maybe – just maybe – this rumor lends some weight to that prospect).
As VideoCardz, which spotted the report, notes, there may be some confusion here about what GPUs AMD has in the works in the near future (since the original leak mentioned Radeon Pro variants of the cards). In other words, there may never have been plans for a consumer model.
Still, we could find a lower-end RDNA 3 model in pre-built PCs – if we read the report correctly, there is still hope that this could happen (keeping in mind that it is a translation, which always raises additional doubts). All in all, however, this does not seem likely, and the most likely scenario at this point seems to be that the next graphics cards we will see from AMD will be RDNA 4 models – unless this report is completely misleading us.
