Police from the 104th Precinct in Ridgewood are searching for armed robbers who posed as maintenance workers to break into a Glendale home, steal thousands of dollars worth of cash and valuables, and then drive off in a getaway car.
The robbery occurred on Tuesday, August 20, around 2 p.m., when the two strangers approached a 28-year-old man near Gates Avenue and Fresh Pond Road. One of the perpetrators engaged him in conversation and then followed him onto the porch of his nearby home.
The victim let him into the home, where the man pulled out a handgun while his accomplice followed him on a handcart with a red toolbox. A 70-year-old woman was inside the home when the fake maintenance workers violently stole $18,000 in cash and a gold bracelet before leaving the home and speeding off westbound on Gates Avenue toward Forest Avenue in a dark-colored SUV. The victims were not injured in the armed robbery.
The NYPD released surveillance images of the suspects on Wednesday. One was wearing a white hard hat, white face mask, orange safety vest over a black hoodie, black pants and black work boots. The second suspect also wore a white face mask, black T-shirt, black pants and black shoes and wore a black baseball cap.
