If you’re looking to save money on school supplies, Dollar Tree might be your first stop. But what if we told you you can get even cheaper prices at Target? Yes, Target.

Your favorite window shopping store is offering more affordable items right now, making it the perfect place to pick up essentials. Here are some back-to-school essentials to pick up on your next visit.

Colored pencils

Crayola is a brand everyone knows and loves, which is why it’s on our list of back-to-school must-haves. You can grab a pack of Crayola Kids Crayons (24 count) for $0.50 instead of the regular price of $1.49.

Target also has its own brand of craft supplies, affectionately called Mondo Llama, that parents should check out this year. The 24-pack of Crayons Classic Colors is only $0.25, so you could theoretically buy five packs for the same price as one pack at Dollar Tree and be stocked up for the entire year, too.

Markings

No student should have crayons without markers and luckily Target has that covered too.

At Target, the 10-pack of Crayola Markers Broad Line Classic is on sale for $0.99, nearly two dollars off the regular retail price of $2.59. Mondo Llama’s 10-pack of Washable Markers Broad Tip Classic Colors is even cheaper, at $0.50 off the regular price of $2.25.

Colored pencils

As your kids get older, they may prefer colored pencils over markers and crayons. Crayola’s 12-pack of pre-sharpened colored pencils for kids is on sale for just $0.99, and Mondo Llama’s 12-pack of colored pencils is $0.50.

As with Mondo Llama’s other products, you can easily grab a few boxes to last throughout the year and some for home use.

Pencils & More

It’s easy to find cheap pencils, but cheap and high-quality pencils are a little harder to find, which is why this 24-pack of #2 wooden pencils is perfectly priced at $0.99. Not only are these pencils cheap, but there are enough pencils in this pack to last at least the entire semester.

It can’t hurt to pick up a few erasers when you go shopping, especially if your kids are first practicing numbers and letters. Target offers both Cap Erasers in a pack of 25 and Smudge-Free Erasers in a pack of 2 from the up&up line for $0.49 each.

Target also offers the BIC Xtra Life ballpoint pens 10-pack in medium black ink for $1.29. Okay, they cost a few cents more than the pens at Dollar Tree, but these pens are great quality and come in blue and red too!

To keep everything in order, don’t forget to grab this Sterlite pencil box on sale for $0.99 (normally $5.99).

Glue, paper and folders

Glue is a must for all grade levels. Whether it’s arts and crafts or poster board presentations, you can’t go wrong with Elmer’s 2-pack of washable school glue sticks on sale for $0.50 instead of the regular price of $1.39. If you need something more flexible, get up&up’s 4-ounce pack of washable school glue sticks for $0.25.

If you want paper, check out the Unison notebook collection. Unison offers a Graph Ruled Solid Composition Notebook in black for $0.50. If you prefer spiral notes, Target also offers a College Ruled 1-Subject Spiral Notebook from the Up&Up line for $0.99.

Don’t forget the sticky notes, too! Target offers Post-it brand 3″ x 3″ sticky notes (with 90 sheets per pad) for just $1.00. Dollar Tree does not have this deal.

And to keep all the papers organized, don’t forget to grab a few of the 2-pocket plastic folders and plastic letter indexes to help your loved ones keep track of all the notes from different classes and projects.

Tips to save more when shopping for the back to school season

At Target, there are even more ways to save not only on back-to-school shopping, but on your everyday purchases as well.

Download the Target Circle app

Target has its own store app called Target Circle (formerly known as Cartwheel). The Target Circle app offers exclusive coupons for various products and special offers on gift cards.

Occasionally, you can even get discounts on your entire purchase, which can range from $10 to $15 depending on the total purchase amount.

Consider a red card for the goal

Target offers its own line of credit and debit cards that can help you save even more by getting an instant 5% off storewide. You can even snag gift cards to other places like Disney and Uber at 5% off.

If you’re looking to save money on school supplies, be sure to stop by Target. You might be surprised.
