Bandai turns Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, Kuromi and more into tarot card-like collectibles

Sanrio mascots like Hello Kitty have been used in many different media and for just as many types of merchandise. Now the characters will be part of another series of trading cards that come with a tasty treat.

The Sanrio Characters Wafer 7 candy series has now been released via Game Watch, and as the name suggests, it’s the seventh edition of these items, this time featuring the cute Sanrio characters on tarot-like cards that depict them in both dark and angelic imagery. Add in a delicious treat, and it’s easily the cutest thing currently featuring Hello Kitty and her friends.

The latest Hello Kitty and Friends card series combines candy with Sanrio

Released through Bandai Candy, the Sanrio Characters Wafer 7 are the next generation of a series of branded cards that come with a sweet treat. The latter is a creamy, chocolatey wafer that is included in each pack of cards. Alongside this sweet morsel, the series also includes two different types of Sanrio cards. The cards feature various characters from the brand such as Hello Kitty, Keroppi and Kuromi, depicting them as either devils or angels in adorable tarot-like illustrations. The second aspect of the series are the “Fluffy Plush Hug” cards, which feature the various Sanrio characters hugging their favorite stuffed animals.

The Fluffy Plush Hug cards are presented in a light pastel color scheme, while the angel/devil cards have bolder colors. The Sanrio Characters Wafer 7 series, which consists of metallic posters, also includes mysterious rare cards made from holographic foil. There are 29 cards in total in the series, two of which are esoteric “secret” cards. The series is now available in Japanese convenience stores in the candy and snack section for 143 yen (just under $1). With these prices, fans can try their luck and hopefully collect the entire set for under $50. Of course, even if they end up buying repeats, they can still enjoy a nice wafer that’s just as cute as the Sanrio characters.
