Bartlesville’s Price Tower is officially up for auction

One of Bartlesville’s greatest landmarks officially closed less than 10 days ago.

According to the owner of the Price Tower building, the building is now up for sale.

After Price Tower owner Cynthia Blanchard told us in our interview earlier this month that a sale was possible.

Well, that possibility has become a reality.

“I have every right to sell whatever I need to sell. This is a for-profit private company, and that’s where the controversy with the Conservation Commission comes in,” said Price Tower owner Cynthia Blanchard.

This was a statement by the owner of Price Tower that she had every right to sell whatever she wanted, even if there was an easement with the Frank Lloyd Wright Conservancy Group.

I spoke to the owner today to confirm the news and a few hours later I received this email.

“After careful consideration, we have decided to offer Price Tower on the commercial real estate auction platform TEN X. This move will enable us to reach a wider audience of potential buyers who appreciate the property’s unique architectural significance.”

Earlier this year, before the building closed, Blanchard said she was close to selling the historic tower.

“There was a potential buyer on the table. We thought it would work out, but it didn’t,” Blanchard said.

Now that the official auction is beginning, I have spoken to the Bartlesville Chamber of Commerce about the sale of the iconic building.

“The citizens of Bartlesville are absolutely concerned about what is going on here. So many people have reached out and asked how they can help. In many ways, it is encouraging to know that people are so committed to the tower,” said Visit Bartlesville Executive Director Maria Gus.

“I hope there’s an opportunity for the city of Bartlesville or the community,” Blanchard said. “Hey, you want it? How about this? Get a group together. Come out and buy it. Let’s make it the Green Bay Packers of Bartlesville.”

After learning that the Frank Lloyd Wright building was for sale, the Frank Lloyd Wright Conservancy issued a statement expressing its opinion, as it still holds an easement on the building that has existed since 2011.

They explained.

During my interview with the owner, Cynthia Blanchard informed me that the property was no longer owned by a nonprofit organization and would not be owned in the future.
