BBC Breakfast presenters found themselves in the unexpected spotlight early Friday when Luxmy Gopal was caught having her hair done live on air.
Just before 6am, the camera switched to the studio and showed the team in the midst of preparations. Charlie Stayt, hastily adjusting his clothes, greeted viewers with: “Good morning and welcome to BBC Breakfast with Luxmy Gopal and Charlie Stayt.”
While her hairdresser was still at work, Luxmy added: “Today’s headlines…” and showed a clip of the US presidential election news broadcast at the time.
Audiences were quick to share their thoughts on social media, with one viewer quipping: “Start your day with the pros at #BBCBreakfast,” reports the Express.
Another said: “Chaos @BBCBreakfast as they switch to the studio early and @luxmy_g presents the headlines while getting her hair done! Great professionalism.”
However, at the official launch time, Charlie and Luxmy gave an impeccable presentation and demonstrated their skills as experienced presenters without any further surprises.
While Charlie is usually paired with Naga Munchetty on BBC Breakfast, Luxmy, who had already appeared earlier in the week, was also seen on screen.
Luxmy, who has worked for the BBC for over 10 years, is often associated with BBC Look North. She recently posted a career update, telling her fans about her confirmed role at BBC London News after leaving her previous team.
Audiences are used to Luxmy providing breaking news on BBC Breakfast, reporting live from various locations across the UK.
However, she often steps in as a moderator on weekends and sometimes during the week, replacing the regular moderators.
