Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase trains for the first time this season

CINCINNATI – Bengals star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase practiced for the first time this season.

Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network posted on X (formerly Twitter) that Chase practiced on Sunday.

“No new contract yet. But Chase was on the field for the first time in camp,” Pelissero wrote.

Chase, who is entering the fourth year of his $30.8 million rookie contract, is eligible for a contract extension even though he is only in the fourth year of his five-year deal, including the fifth-year team option that Cincinnati has already exercised.

Coach Zach Taylor had previously said Chase was living day by day after missing camp.

Taylor had previously stated that Chase’s lack of practice was part of a “plan by Ja’Marr and I,” but gave no further information about what that plan was. Taylor had said that he was on the same page “with everything he’s done” and that he was happy with the way they’ve communicated.

Chase returns to practice two weeks before the Bengals’ season opener in Cincinnati against the New England Patriots.
