Benny is back

It’s been just six months since the Grammy and Emmy-nominated Buffalo native released his debut on Def Jam Recordings. Not everyone can go. During this time, he dabbled in a more commercial sound, releasing a mainstream album with several singles and guest appearances on popular hip-hop podcasts. While songs like the West Coast-influenced “Back Again” and the uptempo “How To Rap” showed some deviations in Benny’s musical approach, his core fans continue to crave the gritty street rhymes that Benny and his tone-setting delivery have become synonymous with.

As a result, he returned with Summertime Butch, which also featured Rick Hyde, ElCamino, and Black Soprano Family member Fuego Base. Additionally, hip-hop legend Ed Lover made a cameo appearance on “Summer 24,” while Harry Fraud and StreetRunner handled production on the album. Now, just under two weeks later, he’s back with a 3-pack of tracks to end the summer strong. With these final two EPs, Benny is back at his best. Back are the slow, cinematic beats with street stories galore. Plus, Benny gets the best out of his collaborators on every song on Buffalo Butch Vol. 1, including Drake’s first feature with a rapper of Benny’s pedigree since his much-publicized feud with Kendrick Lamar. However, since the project’s release on Thursday night, the Drake feature has been removed from streaming.
