Hunt played just five seasons for the Browns, who re-signed the former Toledo star to a one-year deal last year after Chubb’s injury.

Obviously, Hunt is popular with the current front office and coaching staff, considering how long he’s staying there. And with Chubb starting the season on the injured list while he works his way back to the field, Hunt could perhaps be an option at some point this year.

“Hunt, who spent the last five seasons with Cleveland, knows the system well and was a great scoring option for the team, running for nine touchdowns last season, a career high. He’s currently a free agent, so the Browns could bring him back cheaply or even wait until roster cuts are over and then just sign him to their practice squad.”

Cleveland is short-changed at that position, and Nyheim Hines is also on the reserve/non-football injured list with a torn ACL.

As for his time in Cleveland, Hunt loved it, as he told reporters (h/t John Kampf of the News Herald in June).

“It was great. It’s my hometown. I wanted nothing more than to help win a championship here in Cleveland. I wish them all the best. It was a great time. Playing for the Cleveland Browns for five years was a dream come true.”

However, he also commented on a return.

“I wouldn’t say the door is closed, but I’m not really sure. We’ll have to wait and see. I’m just looking for something that’s a good fit, somewhere where I can definitely get playing time and be on a team that’s competitive.”

Maybe that’s in Cleveland, but Hunt could certainly find other opportunities.
