Best smart scales with iPhone and iPad sync for Apple’s Health app

Whether you’re looking to lose a few pounds, build muscle, or gain weight, smart scales that sync data with iPhone and iPad can be a fun and useful way to keep track of your status. If you want to easily track your weight and other metrics in the Health app on iPhone and iPad, you’ll need to find a scale that works with HealthKit or Apple Health.

Sync your weight with the Health app

HealthKit is Apple’s framework for iOS for sharing health data with granular permissions between Apple’s built-in Health app on iPhone and iPad and third-party health apps like those from smart scale makers. When you weigh yourself, the HealthKit-compatible scale syncs the data to its own app and then shares it in Apple’s Health app, along with other health-related data collected by the Apple Watch.

Withings

  • Body scale with WiFi (Amazon) under $60
  • Body+ Composition Wi-Fi Scale (Amazon) under $100
  • Body Cardio Wi-Fi Smart Scale with Body Composition and Heart Rate (Amazon) under $150

They also now have their most advanced smart scale on offer for a whopping $400. However, basic weight syncing doesn’t cost that much.

  • Body ($59) is great for easily tracking your weight. It also tracks body mass index (BMI), which syncs with Apple Health.
  • Body+ ($99) tracks body composition, weight, and BMI: water, muscle mass, fat mass, and bone mass
  • Body Cardio ($179) includes everything from Body+ plus heart rate monitoring

Withings Body+ has been my preferred HealthKit scale solution for years. The Health Mate app is great for viewing weight data in graphs. It can display information in a different way than Apple’s Health app. I also never have to worry about weight data not showing up in the Health app after weighing in. It’s tried and tested and reliable.

Currently, I recommend the cheaper Withings Body model for anyone on a budget. It’s also great for people who only care about tracking weight and BMI. The more expensive Body Cardio, on the other hand, has a rechargeable battery, but the heart rate detection is a harder sell if you’re wearing an Apple Watch.

Budget selection

Eufy has a $30 smart scale with over 12,000 Amazon reviews and a 4.7-star rating. Their BodySense tracks weight, BMI, body fat percentage, bone mass, muscle mass, and other metrics that sync with Apple Health.

GE offers a HealthKit compatible smart scale with a list price of $39.99. The GE model is an Amazon’s Choice product.
