Better Business Bureau warns of risks when sharing back-to-school photos

It’s the time when social media is flooded with back-to-school images – but this can put you or your child in danger.

Josh Planos of the Better Business Bureau spoke to NTV about this on Wednesday.

Planos recommends considering how much you want to reveal when posting online.

He advised against revealing your child’s personal information in your posts, such as their full name, age, height and other details.

He explains that it is easy for scammers to steal children’s identities, even when they are young.

Planos advises leaving out information about your child’s school, including name, teacher and grade level, as this could make the child a target.

This information is often used as security questions and helps fraudsters create phishing emails or messages.

Additionally, most people are more likely to respond to a message if they think it comes from school.

He said you should also check your privacy settings and your social media accounts – new settings seem to be introduced weekly.

He said people should be careful about who can see their posts and remove any personal information such as phone numbers or addresses from their accounts.

According to Planos, only an absolute minimum of information is required to create fake identities and profiles.
