Better Business Bureau warns of scam against vendors at fall festivals

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri (KY3) – The Better Business Bureau is warning fall festival and event vendors about scammers.

In the spring, the BBB received several reports of people posing as tour operators on social media to get potential tour operators to send them money. The BBB recommends that tour operators avoid social media when attempting to make bookings.

“Facebook, for better or worse, is a very popular place for all of us to find out what’s going on in our communities,” said Pamela Hernandez of the Better Business Bureau. “If you want to get legitimate information and be sure, go to the right place. Find the organization that’s hosting the event, find the group, call them directly, pick up the phone and find out what they need to do to become a vendor.”

If you want to check out someone claiming to be a promoter, there are a few ways to verify their identity. Make sure the page is not new or has few followers and that the photos and information match the person they claim to be. If it seems suspicious, don’t send the money.
