Beyoncé at the United Center? No chance for DNC – NBC Chicago

Several reports suggested that megastar Beyoncé was heading to Chicago to perform at the United Center on the final night of the DNC, but conflicting reports refuted this assumption and she ultimately did not perform.

According to MSNBC’s Katie Phang, the singer arrived at the United Center during the second hour of the convention’s closing night, and TMZ had reported earlier in the evening that the singer was expected to perform at the convention.

However, The Washington Post later reported that there were no plans for a “surprise appearance,” and The Hollywood Reporter quoted a spokesperson for the singer as saying her presence was “never planned.”

Beyoncé ultimately did not perform, but Harris entered the arena again with her song “Freedom.”

Speculation ran rampant throughout the day about possible surprise guests on the final night of the convention. White House political director Emmy Ruiz tweeted a bee emoji, which many took as a tongue-in-cheek reference to the “Beyhive,” Beyoncé’s fans.

Several reports about her appearance followed, but ultimately she did not take the stage at the DNC.

Vice President Kamala Harris released a new video this week featuring Beyoncé’s song “Freedom,” fueling speculation that she might attend the convention.
