Bye, blue sky.

Disney just announced concrete plans for all-new lands and park experiences at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California.

“We will bring new stories to life in innovative ways for our fans around the world,” Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences, told USA TODAY.

At previous D23 events, Disney had only hinted at the idea of a land dedicated to villains or whatever else might lie beyond Big Thunder Mountain.

Now we know what’s actually coming. Here are some of the biggest reveals from Saturday’s Disney Experiences Showcase.

What comes after Disney World?

Magic Kingdom

A new Villains Land is being created with two main attractions as well as shopping and dining areas.

A portion of Frontierland will be redesigned with Cars. Unlike Cars Land in Disney California Adventure, this part of Frontierland will remain. The new area will have two attractions, one of which is designed specifically for younger guests. Construction will begin in 2025.

In the summer of 2025, a new nighttime parade in the spirit of the popular Main Street Electrical Parade will take place. It will be called Disney Starlight.

The new pirate-themed tavern in the Magic Kingdom will also open in 2025.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

The first “Monsters, Inc.” land in a Disney park will be built in Hollywood Studios, with construction set to begin in 2025.

“Monsters remains one of the most popular stories Pixar has ever told. Our fans absolutely love it, and we knew we had a chance to bring this franchise to life in a way it’s never been done before, taking the story from the screen to real life,” said D’Amaro.

There are “Monsters, Inc.” attractions in other Disney parks, but not on entire properties.

“We’re going to build a land and an attraction that the Imagineers have always wanted to build, and that I think our fans have always wanted to see built, and that’s the Door Coaster,” he added.

Guests ride through the doors of the Laugh Factory on the first suspended roller coaster in a Disney park.

“And of course we’re going to use the latest technology, the latest tricks and the most immersive environment imaginable to create an experience that I think our fans are going to love,” D’Amaro said.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Disney’s previously announced Tropical Americas theme land will open in 2027, replacing DinoLand USA. Construction will begin in phases this fall, giving guests one last chance to ride dinosaurs before the closure.

The new land will feature a new Indiana Jones attraction that D’Amaro said will be different from what guests have experienced at other Disney parks.

It will also feature Disney’s first Encanto-themed attraction and a new carousel featuring characters from Disney stories.

In winter 2025, a new “Zootopia Better Together” show will open at the Tree of Life Theater, currently showing “It’s Tough to be a Bug!”

When asked how Disney decides when to expand and what to reimagine, D’Amaro told USA TODAY, “We have more space and more stories to tell than anyone else and we’re always looking across our portfolio to see where we want to create completely additional capacity or where we think we have the opportunity to reinvent existing spaces so they can do even more.”

“In the case of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we saw an opportunity to leverage an existing property to enhance it with more powerful intellectual property and more powerful experiences that would make an experience at Animal Kingdom even more valuable,” he added. “It depends on the park we’re looking at, the existing space, and then ultimately we make the best decisions for our fans.”

EPCOT

The newly designed test track will open in 2025

A new lounge inspired by Spaceship Earth will also open in 2025.

What comes after Disneyland?

Disneyland Park

“Tiana’s Bayou Adventure” opens at Disneyland on November 15th.

Disney’s first-ever Walt Disney Audio-Animatronics will debut next year to mark the park’s 70th anniversary.

“That’s very important to me as a performer,” said D’Amaro. “I’ve been with the company for 26 years now. I started at Disneyland. That was the park that Walt created and walked through, and he’s still a part of it today.”

“We are at a moment, 70 years after Disneyland opened, where we feel that technology has kept pace with our ambition to tell Walt’s story and allow the youngest generation of Disney fans to experience what it felt like to be in the room with Walt,” he added.

Walt Disney was a pioneer of audio-animatronics. He will be part of a show called “Walt Disney – A Magical Life”. After the first performance, the show will alternate with “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln”.

“I think this is going to be incredibly special. It’s going to be special for me, and I know it’s going to be special for the Disney fans who just want more, who just want that emotional connection with the brand,” D’Amaro said.

Disney California Adventure

The Avengers Campus will receive two new attractions that will double the size of the current site. Construction will begin in 2025.

The previously announced multiverse attraction will be called Avengers Infinity Defense. A newly announced fourth attraction will be called Stark Flight Lab and will allow guests to try out Stark’s technology.

The first Coco ride in a Disney park will be at Disney California Adventure, with groundbreaking scheduled for 2026.

Disney California Adventure is also getting the next Avatar destination. The setting will be a different location on Pandora, not the same as Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It will be inspired by the second film, the upcoming film, and future “Avatar” films.

What’s coming to Disney parks abroad

A new Lion King attraction is coming to Disneyland Paris.

In January, the resort will also be hosting a new spectacular nighttime show from Disney and Pixar.

The resort’s World of Frozen will open in 2026 as part of a previously announced major redesign of Walt Disney Studios Park at Disney Adventure World.

A new thrilling Spider-Man ride is coming to Shanghai Disneyland.

There will also be a Spider-Man attraction in the Stark Expo area of Hong Kong Disneyland.

Tokyo Disney Resort, which opened its new Fantasy Springs port earlier this year, will be adding a new nighttime spectacular called “Reach for the Stars” on September 20. It will be located at Tokyo Disneyland.

“Some of the things we’ve seen internationally, we’re going to expand globally. And similarly, we’re going to expand things we’ve done domestically globally as well,” D’Amaro said.
