Birdman addresses alleged Lil Wayne diss at Essence Fest

Birdman addresses rumors that he insulted Lil Wayne at the 2024 Essence Festival.

In a recent interview, Birdman talked about the Cash Money reunion set with Juvenile, BG and Mannie Fresh at the New Orleans Festival during “Birdman & Friends.”

Fans were disappointed that Lil Wayne did not perform with Baby during the reunion set. Instead, Weezy had his own set.

“I swear to God on everything I love – and I love nothing more than Ms. Gladys – I will never let my city down and I will never be a f–king n-gga to nobody,” Baby said onstage.

While speaking with Gregory “Geedy P” Earls, Birdman addressed the online chat he and Wayne argued about. “I saw the N-horses talking about, ‘Wayne doesn’t want to do this and that.’ Wayne didn’t even want to be on Essence. I called my son and asked him to be on it because I was on Birdman & Friends. He did it because I asked him to,” he clarified.

“We always knew Wayne would have his own set. Because me, Juvie, Geezy and Fresh rehearsed together every day and had our own set. But we all knew Wayne would have his own set. He was just a surprise guest.”

“He was on Essence two years in a row and personally turned it down. I asked him if he would do it for me and he did it for me. Shout out to my son Weezy, man.”

He also denied that his comments on stage were aimed at Weezy. “No, no. I don’t have the heart to say anything negative about Wayne. I love my son, man. That wasn’t about that.”

“What I meant by that is I’m not going to let this game play me. The game has played a lot of n-ggas. I’m never going to be a wimp to this industry and let them play me. That’s not how I was built and I’m not going to let my city down by being a wimp.”
