Blue Jays listed as possible new signing for former Cy Young in free agency

The Toronto Blue Jays had a rather disappointing 2024 season.

After winning 89 games last season and securing the third wild card spot in the American League, they have fallen on difficult times and now sit at the bottom of the AL East with a record of 59-67.

However, according to Bleacher Report’s Zach Rymer, they could potentially be in the running for a significant rotation improvement.

“The Blue Jays were said to be ‘quietly watching’ Blake Snell in January,” Rymer wrote. “Perhaps they will be more aggressive this winter.”

The Blue Jays have a solid foundation for their comeback in 2025, even if this season got out of hand. Kevin Gausman, Jose Berrios and Chris Bassitt remain in the rotation, and the potential signing of Snell would certainly give them a boost.

Snell won his second Cy Young last season with the San Diego Padres and signed with the San Francisco Giants late in the offseason. He got off to a rocky start but has since lowered his ERA to 3.67 and will almost certainly opt out of his contract.

The 31-year-old left-hander is also familiar with the AL East thanks to his time with the Tampa Bay Rays, so if he were to move to the Blue Jays he would face familiar teams.

It will be interesting to see if Toronto ultimately decides to sign the experienced left-hander.
