Bomb threat against schools in Indiana: Wayne County reacts quickly

Wayne County, IN – Northeastern Wayne Schools were impacted by an unconfirmed threat of a possible bomb attack Monday morning. At approximately 8:27 a.m., the Wayne County Emergency Communications Center received a report from Richmond Police about a male caller claiming he was on his way to Northeastern Wayne Schools with a bomb and intended to “kill everyone.”

Upon receiving the alarming information, the Communications Center immediately dispatched law enforcement to the schools. Wayne County Sheriff’s School Resource Officers (SROs) immediately worked with school authorities to implement safety protocols. Sheriff’s patrol units, detectives, and officers from the Indiana State Police, Fountain City Police, and Richmond Police Departments also responded.

The sheriff’s office set up a command post and conducted a thorough search of school buildings, including the high school, elementary school and preschool. The identity of the caller was also investigated, but the name provided did not match any student or staff member at Northeastern Wayne Schools or nearby facilities.

Normal school operations resumed at around 9:45 a.m. as no serious threat was identified. Wayne County officials remained on site to continue to ensure safety.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident in collaboration with multiple law enforcement agencies.
