Bridge repair work is taking place

Maintenance work will take place on a bridge on Sandhills Avenue in Leicester next month.

The masonry on the parapet of the Hamilton Bridge will be repaired and replaced. Scaffolding will be erected on both sides of the bridge to facilitate the work. The walkways above the bridge will also be repaved and minor repairs will be made to the roadway.

The repairs will ensure that the route remains safe for pedestrians and traffic.

The work will begin on Monday, 2.and September and is expected to last seven weeks.

Warning signs will be posted on surrounding access roads and information signs will be posted on site throughout the construction period.

Traffic on Sandhills Avenue will be limited to one lane across the bridge for the duration of construction, with two-lane temporary traffic signals in operation. Pedestrian walkways across the bridge will also be closed, with pedestrians being rerouted via a separated, enclosed path on the roadway. Only one pedestrian walkway will be closed at any one time.

Pearl Way, the underpass walkway beneath the bridge, will remain open for the duration of construction.

The work will cost £164,000 and will be funded from the city council’s annual highways maintenance budget.
