Bryan Cranston stars in “Uncharted” with Tom Holland

“Breaking Bad” veteran Bryan Cranston could play a leading role in the upcoming “Uncharted” film, according to a recent report.

Director Shawn Levy (“Night at the Museum”) takes the helm of the long-in-development adaptation of the popular video game adventure series, and the filmmakers – possibly inspired by the upcoming “Tomb Raider” – have opted for an origin story-themed approach, casting current Spider-Man actor Tom Holland as a young Nathan Drake.

According to That Hashtag Show, Sony is eyeing 61-year-old Cranston — who recently starred in “Power Rangers” — for “Uncharted.” While their sources can’t confirm which role Cranston is considering, they speculate it’s likely to be Victor “Sully” Sullivan, an older adventurer and colleague of Drake.

This seems particularly plausible since the film is reportedly directly based on the game Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, a prequel that shows how Drake and Sully first became friends.

Of course, it must be stressed that there is no confirmation of this – and after all the rumors that he would play Lex Luthor in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice turned out to be unfounded, we tend to take all rumors about Bryan Cranston with a grain of salt.

Since the launch of the Playstation 3 game “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune” in 2007, eight more “Uncharted” games have been released, as well as several related online games, comic books and novels.

The latest script for “Uncharted” was written by Joe Carnahan; a release date for the film is currently not planned.
